The National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), located in Thiruvananthapuram, is a premier laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).Established in 1975 as a CSIR Complex, it was renamed the Regional Research Laboratory in 1978, and later adopted its current name, NIIST, in 2007.NIIST is dedicated to conducting high-quality research and development in areas that promote the effective utilization of regional resources and contribute to the nation's scientific and technological advancement.The institute currently focuses on R&D in diverse fields such as agro-processing and technology, chemical sciences and technology, materials science and technology, microbial processes and technology, and environmental technology.It houses state-of-the-art facilities to support advanced research in these domains. Additionally, NIIST has developed pilot plant facilities for research training and the development of processes and products, particularly in the areas of spices and oilseeds.
