National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS)

The establishment of the Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) in 1978 by Prof. C. Karunakaran marked the recognition of the need to study the Earth’s processes from a holistic perspective. In 2014, the institute attained national stature under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, and was re-envisioned as the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS). Since then, NCESS has been dedicated to advancing the understanding of Earth’s dynamic systems through scientific excellence, sustainability, and a comprehensive understanding of the planet in all its complexity
